Marimekko has created a number of collectibles to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Unikko pattern. The Oiva Unikko Container is one of the collectibles. It is made of stoneware, with a yellow poppy shaped lid and a brown base that features the anniversary stamp on the bottom. The container comes packed in an anniversary Unikko gift box.
The Unikko (poppy) pattern was designed in 1964 by Maija Isola. At that time, Marimekko’s founder Armi Ratia ruled out the design of floral patterns. She believed flowers were more beautiful in nature than on textiles. Over time Ratia’s opinion changed. Today, this famous poppy is recognized as the symbol of Marimekko.
