Each Dale of Norway sweater has it’s own story, so it’s impossible to get into specific detail about all of Dale’s sweaters. However, if you have a question in mind about a particular sweater, feel free to ask! Just breaking down one of Dale’s simpler sweaters can show how each detail is thought through in a Dale sweater.
Design
The Dale of Norway Folgefonn is available in three different colors: Agean Blue, Fuschia Red, and Black. From the front, it looks like a comfortable, casual hoodie. The Folgefonn has the classic draw string hood and single front pocket. “Dale of Norway” is embroidered diagonally on the right shoulder for an edgier look than you normally see from Dale. This nice little detail is balanced out by the Norwegian Ski Pool Association emblem on the left arm. The real interest in this hoodie is seen on the back! Set harmoniously on the back (overlapping) in white stitching are the three different symbols for freestyle, downhill, and cross-country skiing.
Construction
Merino wool is a very fine fiber, even finer than many synthetic fibers. The thinness of the fiber combined with it’s crimp create millions of tiny air pockets that trap air. This trapped air becomes the insulation that keeps the warm air in and the cold air out.
The Folgefonn has a two layer system of Merino wool and nylon. Nylon is a synthetic fiber that dyes similarly to wool and increases the soft feel of the fabric. Nylon also acts as to reinforce and increase the elasticity of the fabric. The inner and outer layers of wool blend are knitted together with spandex to create a stretchy, causal fit perfectly designed for comfort and warmth. In the black version of this sweater, the outer layer is black while the inner layer is red. The red is subtly noticed on the outside and really makes a statement on the inside of the hood.
Even what appears to be a simple, casual hoodie has been thought out for the maximum warmth and comfort whether you are skiing or just running errands. Imagine what great things are hidden in their sport and heritage lines!
