Debuting in 1961, the Model 597 lamp marked Italian virtuoso Gianfranco Frattini’s entry into the world of lighting design. Characterized by its compact, cylindrical shape, the Model 597 boasts multiple bulbs and whimsical fringes that cleverly conceal its multifunctional features. This lamp’s distinctive and playful design beautifully exemplifies Frattini’s exceptional approach to the artistry of illumination.
Now, more than six decades after it was first produced, the Model 597 is back, its characteristic and timeless blend of versatility, elegance, tactility, and light-hearted whimsy ready to delight a new generation. Referring to Frattini’s original drawings alongside an original example of the design, GUBI, and the Frattini family have reissued the Model 597 Floor Lamp as it was.
Its distinctive nylon fringes cascade gracefully from a diabolo-shaped aluminum base, where six lateral bulbs encircle the central core, while an additional bulb resides above, casting an enchanting 360º radiance through the fringes. This luminary masterpiece also creates an ethereal uplight, its glow dancing upon the polished aluminum, all within your control through a dual-button switch.
The body is constructed from an aluminum plate, which is spun on a lathe and shaped over a mold. The Floor Lamp comprises two pieces, which are attached using three finger screws. These are also used to affix the baseplate and cover the lamp, making it easy to disassemble for repair or recycling.
