The Shell chair is another unique and classic design by Hans Wegner. Designed in 1963, the Shell Chair is still produced by Carl Hansen & Son today in Denmark. This chair is sometimes called the “smiling chair” due to its upward curving seat that seems to float above the ground. The bentwood frame of the chair uses three legs to create amazing stability and the perfect sitting angle. The lacquered Walnut frame of the Shell chair provides a warm backdrop for a number of fabrics and leathers that can be chosen for the seat and back cushions.

Vegetable-based and water-based finishes are used. The company adheres to strict Danish conservation practices to minimize energy usage. Scrap wood from the factory is used to heat homes of people living in the area.
