ICFF 2009

The International Contemporary Furniture Fair happened again this month in lovely NYC.  ICFF is easily the premiere furniture show in the U.S. for design.  Inspiring and creative design abounds.  When you want to see what the newest trends and designs in modern furniture will be, this is the show.  So of course I had to run off to New York for a few days and see the latest.  Many of our favorite suppliers use this fun and energetic show to introduce their latest products…

Magis is always cutting edge and constantly pushing the envelope with their products. This show was no exception as they took the coveted ICFF Editors Award for Seating for the second year in a row.  The new chairs were great, but perhaps my favorite new piece is the Dodo a new rocking toy designed by Oiva Toikka!  (Best know for his glass bird collection from Iittala)

Chilewich has had an amazing line of woven vinyl products for years, and every year they get better!  There are many introductions this year and the new Coral design for placemats and runners is a stunner in metallic gold!

Blu Dot had a fantastic showing at ICFF this year with a slew of introductions.  New mirrors, shelving and a new sleeper sofa all looked great.   The the new lighting collection will be a while, but it is going to be fantastic. Then there is this funky guy: the Juice Box a place to store and charge all your electronic gadgets! Fun!

The ICFF show is always a great place to discover new talent.  Perhaps the most exciting collection I saw this year was from the very new 2 brother design duo Misewell.  The ICFF Editors agreed and awarded them the highly prized Best New Designer Award.  The wood and metal combinations that they are creating are very fresh and very modern.  Not only are these brothers making some very elegant and well designed products, but they are doing it in our own backyard.  Misewell is based in Milwaukee!  Yes, I had to go to New York to find great furniture from WI! We hope to see some of this great new line in the store soon!

To show you the depth of design being exhibited at this show check out this Therapeutic Robot from the Japanese Pavillion.  These little guys move and respond to touch and sound.  They are used with children in hospitals or other patients who need the therapeutic power of love and touch!  Very cool!

These are just some of the exciting introductions to appear at ICFF.  Hope you enjoyed the sampling…
