The Art and Joy of Dressing the Dinner Table

The Art and Joy of Dressing the Dinner Table
Linda  |  11.16.15  |  Accessories, Design

I’m not sure when I acquired my love of dressing the dinner table but it began before I hit double digits. My mom would take down our special-occasion dinnerware (until I was big enough to reach it myself), tell me where she wanted everything placed on the table, and then set me free to complete my mission.

The art of repetition and precision was something I enjoyed during those early years. Now that I have my own table to set, I find it exciting mixing different colors and patterns. In either case, it has always been about making the table welcoming and well-appointed.

Old is Made New

So whether you like symmetry or asymmetry, neutrals or color, simplicity or layering, make it your own; have fun changing it up from
year to year or season to season. Relish in recognizing a family tabletop tradition or create your own.

Here are some of the new colors from Chilewich, one of our favorite tabletop lines.

New Chilewich Colors

A square Basketweave placemat in Willow layers over a
rectangular Mini Basketweave placemat in Pistachio
for a nice earthy, textural base for simple dinnerware.

Harvest Table

A gradated placemat in rich autumnal oranges atop
a cherry table gives warmth and drama to the table
setting mimicking Fall’s changing leaves.
